The dust is slowly settling as the studios are getting ready to see some action. Maxyme, Julien and Nik have put countless hours to bring them up to standard. The cyclo is pretty impressive and the space feels great. The light in there is pretty amazing when the sun shines in.

Here is our newest addition, a small studio (almost as big as our previous shooting space) that will also be used as gallery and to host special events. Located next to the kitchen, the 2 rooms are only separated by a 8′ wide sliding door so both spaces can connect, making it ideal for events.

Everything’s been done according to plan. There’s still lots to do, but the end or should I say the beginning is near. Soon we’ll have our new home… And the proper launch party to go with it!

In terms of functionality, it’s much better. Once I come around the menu changes, I’m sure I’ll appreciate it even more. Hard not to mention the awesome ISO improvements. But what I appreciate the most so far, are the little things. Easy switch from photo to video without losing settings. New jpg format of 1920 pixels wide, fitted to match HD video shooting. The new LCD screen maximized for HD viewing. The new focusing system. The more silent shutter. The new and improved EOS utility that facilitates remote shooting. Not to mention the possibility to work with an overlay image.

But as a studio photographer, I was expecting a little bit more after 3 years of wait. I envy the D800 pixel count, though I haven’t read much about the actual quality. I guess I was kind of expecting the missing link between slr shooting and medium format out of price digital back.

The apple didn’t fell far from the tree, so the MarkIII is not that different than the MarkII which doesn’t quite explain to me the price hike! Don’t get me wrong, I love the new camera. But it feels more like a replacement than a new product. With the recent announcements, looks like Canon is done putting out new products for a while. Guess we’ll have to wait another three years, or create an investment fund to get a PhaseOne IQ180!

Last summer, I got a call from ALLOFUS, a London-based agency who approached me to develop a concept for YOTA, a Russian 4G network provider. They wanted to create a fun and creative installation piece that we could spin into two separate visuals. I teamed up right away with Designer and Art Director Karim Charlebois-Zariffa who came up with a cool BMX anti-gravity concept! The shoot was fun as always. The trick was to find out a way to hang the bike 10ft in the air! I’m really happy with the results. Big thanks to VisualBox who did a great job! Really happy to see the reach of our work and that we can attract clients from abroad.
