Wraping up the Toronto Shoot.

The day started with a frenzy. Lots of talent on set and last minute changes on the final timeline, everything normal. After a series of tests and minor adjustments (thank you Krylon Dulling Spray!), we were ready to shoot. We performed a first take that lasted about 90 minutes, non-stop. Marvin, our digital tech, was archiving the shots as they came along. We were then shooting with Dragon Stop Motion software, which is amazing. We were popping a shot every 8 seconds! A first draft of the clip was exported, then introduced to Final Cut Pro so we could add a digital zoom to it to show the client a glimpse of the final result.

Based on this first draft, the timeline was redesigned and we opted to adapt our workflow to our new reality. We let go of Dragon and went for Capture One, capturing straight from the 32 gig of Ram 8-Core Mac Powerhouse! We were able to boost up our speed and take shots every 3 seconds, insuring a better flow to our timelapse, reducing the length of our take by half.

After the second take, the beehive got activated again and the house got wrapped in no time. Having two assistants and a bunch of producer’s assistants really made my job easy. I got the chance to work with Caitlin Durlak who I had met in a previous Sylvain Dumais shoot, and Dustin Parr, a great guy and photographer.

Then we all headed to a bar to celebrate Sylvain’s birthday! The producers, David and Jeff tagged along for a great night! The following morning, we would wake up at 5:30am to catch our flight!
