It’s with renewed pleasure that I am witness to the successes of photographers from my generation as their work is being recognized world-wide through exhibitions, awards and publications.

A couple of years back, I was a bit cynical about it all. Seeing the Quebec market as a closed off self-sufficient market focused on its own star-system. Getting out of the city seemed like an impossible endeavour.

I always had greater ambition for myself, wanting my work to travel, carrying me along the way. A couple of years later, it’s quite incredible to see my contemporaries getting their work published all over the place. The web is a great factor when it comes to spreading the word but it just shows how much talent there is in our micro-climate.

Seeing them exporting their work and working abroad, getting attention from international agencies and clients is a great source of inspiration and motivation.

You come to realize that it is possible. You just need to have the guts!
