It’s all about Previsualization!

Here’s a shot I did over the summer for Dj Kamistry. I had previously shot the building on an overcast day while shooting architecture in Old Montreal. The background shot comes from the Palais de Justice. I had shot a series exploring the graphics of that building but when it came to that composition, I just knew it was the perfect setting since the glass window was offering me the perfect negative space to insert a strong character in a poster-like shot. I shot Dj Kamistry on a white seamless, but during the whole shoot, I had that background shot in mind. So once we we’re done with the planned shoot, I asked him to do one more shot. I matched the camera angle from the background shot, shooting upwards, and asked him to pose, looking away, creating the proper attitude. I later composited the shot, integrating the studio shot to achieve the final image. Looking back at the studio shoot, I’m really glad that I went with my gut feeling because it ended up being the best shot!
